Bret Hart is a WWE Hall of Famer and he’s considered to be an icon in the world of professional wrestling. Bret has been retired for quite some time now, but his in ring legacy lives on because his work inside the squared circle still resonates with fans to this day.

Some of Bret’s greatest moments happened at WrestleMania and Bret recently spoke to Sports Illustrated about his wrestling career and more. When asked about his favorite WrestleMania match, Bret Hart noted that his WrestleMania X match with his brother Owen will always be special to him, but he considers his WrestleMania XII match with Shawn Michaels to be his finest moment.

“As for my finest WrestleMania moment, that happened at WrestleMania XII with Shawn Michaels. I think it stands as the best pro wrestling match. Kudos to Shawn, too. We both made that a classic match that will never, ever lose its shine. There were no wasted moves, and the precision in every move, right down to Tony Chimmel getting kicked off his chair—I’ve watched it maybe 10 times in the last 10 years—and the beauty of that match was that Shawn and I had put a lot of thought into different aspects of the match. I remember there was a certain point when I had to be setting up a move with exactly five minutes left in the match. I remember setting up on the second rope and looking at the score clock, and there were exactly four minutes and fifty-nine seconds left in the match. It was those little details where we were exactly on cue, on the second, that made the “Iron Man” match unlike any other live drama. The amazing stuff I did with Shawn that day eclipses anything I ever did in terms of timing and thinking on my feet. The drama of me staggering back up to my feet, still fighting, then taking the big boot for Shawn’s finish, and the drama, frustration, and emotion my fans must have felt was huge. It still stands as one of the most dramatic matches in WrestleMania history.”

Bret Hart’s match with Steve Austin at WrestleMania XIII is considered by many to be one of the greatest matches in WrestleMania history. But leading up to WrestleMania XIII, Bret Hart was under the impression that he would be working another match with Shawn Michaels. Hart noted that he considers his match with Shawn at WrestleMania XII and his match with Austin at WrestleMania XIII to be his two greatest matches of all time.

Unfortunately Hart’s career ended long before he would have liked it to, but he doesn’t shy away from doing a little fantasy booking for himself. There are plenty of names he would like to face at WrestleMania and John Cena is at the top of his list.

“If I could wrestle somebody at a WrestleMania, I would have really loved to wrestle with John Cena. It would have been nice to have a great WrestleMania match with The Rock and Edge, but my history would have lined up perfectly with John. I know I could have a great match with John from the way he wrestles, the way he moves, and his style. He’s just a total pro.”

It’s a shame that we’ll never know just how good a Bret Hart vs. John Cena match could have been, but that’s what the WWE video games are for right?

If you could book Bret Hart in a WrestleMania match against any current WWE Superstar who would it be? Sound off in the comments below.

AJ Styles has come a long way since making his WWE debut. He’s a former WWE Champion and he’s feuded with big names such as Roman Reigns and John Cena, but is AJ being buried? Some people out there seem to think so and we’re talking about it on this week’s episode of Still Real Radio which you can listen to below or on iTunes by clicking here.
