CM Punk has been making headlines over the last few days ever since it was announced that Tony Khan terminated Punk’s AEW contract. This isn’t the first high profile departure from a wrestling company for CM Punk as the former AEW World Champion walked out of WWE back in January of 2014.

Unfortunately we’ll never know how the rest of CM Punk’s WWE run would have played out had he stayed with the company, but it seems that we finally have some insight regarding what WWE had planned for him before he walked out.

The night before he walked out of WWE, CM Punk competed in the 30 man Royal Rumble match, but he was eliminate by Kane. Former WWE photographer John Giamundo recently appeared on the Cheap Heat Productions Podcast and he indicated that Punk was supposed to be involved in a segment with Kane on Raw which obviously didn’t take place.

“The next day [after the 2014 Royal Rumble], ‘We’re gonna destroy your photo studio,'” Giamundo said, recalling a conversation he had with someone backstage. “He [CM Punk] was gonna get beat up by Kane, maybe, I don’t even know what it was. I’m like, ‘Dude, you’re not gonna smash all my equipment. Then what am I supposed to do? There’s like thousands of dollars of camera equipment and photo equipment.'”

Not that CM Punk has parted ways with AEW there’s been a lot of talk about what his next move will be, but there’s currently no word on whether or not he plans to continue wrestling, or which promotion he could potentially work with in the future. Stay tuned for updates.
