Deadline reports that WWE Studios is going to partner with The Rock’s production company to work on a very interesting project. The movie is going to be based on the documentary, “Fighting With My Family” which chronicled the story of the Bevis family.
The documentary in question is brilliant by all accounts and follows the Bevis family as they run their independent UK wrestling promotion. If you haven’t seen this documentary, this writer highly suggests it. The documentary took place during the perfect time in Paige’s career as you watch her basically get plucked from her family to join WWE and how her family deals with the loss of their biggest attraction.
Seven Bucks Productions (The Rock’s company) and WWE Studios will be working together on the film which is set to be helmed and written by Stephen Merchant. Merchant’s previous work includes The Office, (both the OG BBC version and the US take on the series) therefore it is likely this film will have a whimsical and cuttingly humorous comedy element to it.
The Rock is set to play some part in the movie, although his role has not been established publicly yet. Florence Pugh will star in the film as Paige with Jack Lowden will play the part of her brother, Zak.
WWE Studios are set to co-finance the film in corporation with Film4, who have been with the project since its inception.
It is interesting to note that although Paige and WWE might be going through somewhat of a rough spot right now, they obviously haven’t completely written her off just yet.
Paige is currently recuperating from neck surgery, so it will be some time before we see her back in the ring, but this news certainly gives fans hope that WWE still sees her as a long-term superstar.
Paige signed a lengthy deal with the company, and perhaps some of the reason that WWE doesn’t want to let her go might have something to do with this ongoing project.
It is unreasonable to think that WWE wouldn’t want to use her while promoting the film, this might even give her wrestling family a chance to make it on WWE television. Let’s just hope they don’t book a match for SummerSlam with Paige versus Florence Pugh to promote the film. Because, although Pugh might pick up some wrestling basics while shooting the WWE Studios film, it’s highly doubtful that she could truly hold a candle to the true Anti-Diva.
