WrestleMania weekend is almost here and it is already loaded with big events. In addition to WrestleMania itself NXT Stand & Deliver will also be airing live from Philadelphia this weekend and Ilja Dragunov is currently set to defend his NXT Championship against Tony D’Angelo.
Fightful Select is reporting that currently WWE is not planning to call Ilja Dragunov up to the main roster at the moment, but the expectation is that he will be called up when he drops the NXT Championship.
There are some in NXT who feel that Dragunov is beyond the brand at this point. It’s also being said that Ilja Dragunov has not been considered for NXT Europe since he moved over to performing on NXT on a regular basis.
The belief among several people in NXT is that WWE officials see Ilja Dragunov in the same vein as Gunther, and he will likely receive a similar push when he gets called up to the main roster.
Dragunov has reportedly received a lot of praise in NXT as he needs very little direction from producers. It’s also being said that Ilja Dragunov is incredibly easy to work with and one person called him a “wonderful person to be around.”
