Rey Mysterio was Mr. 619 during his WWE run and after his departure from the company he’s made appearances at independent wrestling shows and Lucha Underground. But fans would still love to see Rey Rey wrap up his career in WWE.
There were reports Rey Mysterio was talking to both WWE and Global Force Wrestling at the same time. While that might have been factual, it also might have been a political move in order to gain leverage for a better deal from whichever company he decided to sign with.
But Sports Illustrated reports WWE has no interest in bringing the popular masked wrestler back at this point. Although it is kind of disappointing news, there are still plenty of other options for Rey Mysterio at this stage in his career. Reports are WWE doesn’t want to work with the people trying to represent Mysterio in the deal, especially Konnan.
Most are under the assumption Rey will sign with GFW as they continue to show their affinity toward Latin American talent. Rey would also have friends like Konnan around as well so that’s always a plus. But as of right now it isn’t likely we’ll be seeing Rey back in a WWE ring at this stage in his career.
Mysterio’s good friend Konnan might have played a part as well as Justin Barrasso noted in his article Konnan and WWE haven’t gotten along since Vince’s House Of Headlocks invested a lot of money in the Max Moon gimmick only to have Konnan choose to perform in Mexico instead.
Even though Konnan was recently backstage at a WWE event to visit his good friend Chris Jericho it apparently didn’t help mend the fences. If Rey Mysterio signs with GFW we can only hope he won’t damage any chances of coming back to WWE later on in his career as a possible brand ambassador after he retires from in-ring competition.
Rey Mysterio is a shoo-in for the WWE Hall Of Fame if he can stay in the good graces of Vince McMahon and Company. But at this juncture it looks like Rey will have to peruse other options because WWE isn’t interested right now.
