The WWE roster is constantly expanding, and you never know who could end up signing a contract with the company in the future.

There are still plenty of wrestlers out there who are free agents, and it sounds like WWE has their eyes on a top star from the independent wrestling scene.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that WWE has had communication with Joey Ryan.

Ryan isn’t under contract with AEW, because he was under contract with Lucha Underground until recently, but he is featured on the Being The Elite YouTube show.

The rule of BTE is that the show is supposed to pay off all its storylines, so the presumption at this point is that Ryan will end up signing with AEW.

As of earlier this week, WWE had not made Joey Ryan an official offer, but he was contacted when the company found out he’s a free agent.

Ryan was reportedly asked if he would be willing to move to Orlando, wrestle for a few years, and then transition into a coaching position. He owns a home in Los Angeles and he would be taking a pay cut with the NXT salary, as he earns more on the independent scene.

It’s being said that if he was 29 he probably would have taken the deal, but at 39 taking a pay cut isn’t something he’s likely to do.
