With WrestleMania 32 right around the corner and many top stars out of action, WWE is looking to bring in some big names for the event. They’ve already pitched an idea to Batista but he turned it down. Now WWE is making a play for Shawn Michaels to work the event according to PWInsider.

On a recent episode of his WOOOO! Nation podcast Ric Flair revealed that WWE officials wanted Shawn to come out of retirement and work the 30 man Royal Rumble match. Shawn of course didn’t work the match and as Ric Flair has noted before, Shawn is enjoying retirement

Still, WWE is reportedly hoping for Michael to be a big player at WrestleMania 32. If Shawn Michaels does work work the show it seems highly unlikely that he would wrestle as he’s made it clear many times that he’s not interested in working another match.

It was rumored that the role Batista turned down for the big event may have been a special guest referee role in a possible Triple H vs Roman Reigns main event. That’s one scenario that could be offered to Shawn Michaels, but that’s purely speculation. Michaels previously worked as a special guest referee at WrestleMania when he participated in the Triple H vs Undertaker Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania 28.
