Fans who subscribe to the WWE Network know that the yearly schedule is loaded with pay-per-views, but the number of events will be reduced in 2018.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the decision to cut back the number of pay-per-views was based on WWE Network numbers. When the brand split returned, WWE increased most months to two shows, but the WWE Network numbers didn’t change.
Instead the company just added the expense of a second major show, and the interest in B PPV shows on the SmackDown side reportedly wasn’t that strong.
Next year the WWE pay-per-view schedule will host 5 co-branded events as opposed to four, as Money In The Bank will feature stars from both Raw and SmackDown Live.
