It was recently reported that Alberto Del Rio had parted ways with WWE and the company has now made the official announcement. WWE posted the following on WWE.com:
“WWE and Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) have mutually agreed upon the terms of his release as of today, September 9, 2016.”
The former WWE World Champion will be holding a press conference which will take place later today. It’s expected that he will comment on his plans for the future, and possibly address the rumors and reports regarding the circumstances of his WWE departure.
Alberto Del Rio is a four time WWE World Champion, a two time United States Champion, a former Money in the Bank winner and the winner of the largest Royal Rumble in history.
Del Rio returned to the company in October of 2015 and he defeated John Cena clean to win the United States Championship in his first match back. From there he partnered up with Zeb Colter for the Mex-America angle, before forming the League of Nations with Sheamus, Rusev and King Barrett. The group disbanded in April and Del Rio has been on his own ever since.
He was suspended for 30 days on August 17 for violating WWE’s Wellness Policy, and WWE star Paige was suspended on the same day as well.
It’s been reported that WWE threatened to fire Paige over her relationship with Alberto Del Rio, but the company has denied such allegations. It’s also rumored that Paige has quit WWE and you can get more on that here.
Alberto Del Rio posted the following comments:
My business relationship with @WWE has come to an end in good terms…thanks for the opportunities they gave me.
