Dave Bautista hasn’t been around WWE for a long time but his name will always mean something in the pro wrestling landscape. Although his career might not have been all that long by most people’s standards he certainly did a lot.
Brad Shepard had the chance to speak briefly about WWE’s issue with Batista on Backstage in WWE while comparing him to John Cena. After all, they are both from the same superclass from OVW that consisted of guys like Brock Lesnar, Shelton Benjamin, and Randy Orton as well (via Ringside News).
“Dave Bautista I believe he would have been a solid face of the company, he really could have done those appearances [that John Cena did]. Dave is a different kind of presence than John Cena but that’s not necessarily always bad it’s just different.”
“And I don’t really quite know what it is. They didn’t like that he went outside of WWE when they wouldn’t give him the opportunities he wanted and he found them on his own.”
It looks like WWE might have an issue with how Dave Bautista did his own thing. But it might stand to reason why they never had him back and seemed to dangle a top WrestleMania match tagging with Ronda Rousey like a carrot on a string in front of him. But Drax The Destroyer never got that WrestleMania carrot and WWE apparently just stopped calling him about it. Batista was left to realize he didn’t get the spot when Kurt Angle put himself in the match on Raw.
When WWE first had a chance to promote Guardians Of The Galaxy they actually passed on it as well. Apparently, WWE thought the movie would be a flop which it wasn’t. Now it might go even deeper if this idea is true because there could possibly be some decision makers backstage in WWE who are resentful of Batista for succeeding without them.
Only time will tell if Batista and WWE can work anything out but he’s not getting any younger. Maybe all we’ll get out of Batista is a Hall Of Fame induction but it would always be nice to see him back in the ring.
