Earlier this year Candy Cartwright (Samantha Tavel) accused WWE Superstar Matt Riddle of sexual assault as part of the #SpeakingOut movement, and now she has moved forward with a lawsuit.
The lawsuit was first reported by the Chicago Sun Times, and it’s been filed against Matt Riddle, a co-founder of EVOLVE and WWE. According to Fightful she is seeking $10 million per defendant.
It’s being claimed that Matt Riddle assaulted her from April of 2017 through January of 2020, and she’s seeking damages from emotional distress, punitive damages and attorney fees.
Tavel claims that Riddle choked her and forced her to perform oral sex on a bus on May 19, 2018. After Tavel expressed that she was uncomfortable performing the act because there were other wrestlers on the bus, she claims that Riddle said “What if I just made you?”
Her attorney claims that the May 2018 assault was just one of many.
“I never thought he would do anything to hurt me and, in that moment, I was terrified,” Tavel noted.
In response to the lawsuit WWE issued the following statement:
“WWE has not been served with a lawsuit by Ms. Tavel. However, if served, we will vigorously defend ourselves and contest it.”
