This week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown was extra special as WWE returned to Madison Square Garden, and the New York fans were clearly happy to be there. Original plans called for Zelina Vega & Carmella to face Liv Morgan & Toni Storm, but the women’s tag team match was cut from the show due to time constraints.
There’s been a lot of backlash in reaction to WWE cutting the match as Zelina Vega had custom ring gear made in honor of her father Michael Trinidad who passed away on 9/11.
WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley recently posted a video on social media criticizing WWE, and Foley once again voiced his opinion on WWE cutting the tag match when he posted the following tweet:
“So @TheaTrinidad’s match was cut for time at @TheGarden on the eve of 9/11? That hurts ME – I can only imagine how Thea felt. Stay strong, my friend.”
WWE also cut other segments from Friday’s episode of SmackDown, and you can get more on that here.
