This week’s episode of WWE SmackDown Live was an interesting show, and WWE tried hard to deliver on the Fourth of July. The stars of the blue brand brought it on Tuesday night, and 16 time WWE World Champion John Cena made his return.

Cena kicked off the show and cut a promo saying that he’s ready to knock down all the top stars on Raw and SmackDown Live. Rusev then returned and interrupted his promo as he proceeded to talk trash about America on the Fourth of July. John Cena then challenged Rusev to a flag match, but the Bulgarian Brute declined and walked away.
It was announced later in the show that John Cena and Rusev will face off in a flag match at the WWE Battleground pay-per-view later this month.
This week’s episode of SmackDown Live also featured an Independence Day Battle Royal which saw some of SmackDown’s finest face off for a chance to challenge Kevin Owens for the United States Championship at Battleground.
Earlier in the night AJ Styles won a qualifying match when he faced off against Chad Gable, and he seemed to be the favorite heading into the battle royal.
The battle royal came down to Tye Dillinger, AJ Styles and Sami Zayn, an Dillinger threw both Zayn and Styles over the top rope, but they held on. Sami Zayn then eliminated Tye Dillinger and it came down to Zayn and Styles.
AJ Styles managed to eliminate Sami Zayn to win the battle royal, and as soon as he did Kevin Owens left the commentary table and attacked AJ Styles. Kevin held the title in AJ’s face and tried to talk trash, but AJ fought back with a Pele Kick and he tried to follow up with the Styles Clash, but Owens rolled out of the ring.
AJ held up the US Title to end the show.
