WWE Crown Jewel is arguably the most controversial WWE PLE in some time as the company has been criticized for not moving the event following multiple recent attacks in Saudi Arabia. Nevertheless the show is still scheduled to air live from Riyadh on Saturday.
Ahead of the show PWInsider is reporting that rather than calling the action from inside the arena the WWE commentary team will be working from WWE HQ in Stamford, CT.
Earlier today the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh issued the following statement ahead of Crown Jewel:
“American sports diplomacy comes to Riyadh! We are thrilled to share the excitement as WWE Crown Jewel returns to Saudi Arabia this weekend! Crown Jewel is entirely created, owned, and produced by @WWE, a wholly American professional wrestling promotion headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut. American sports entertainment exports create shared unforgettable experiences, strengthening the bonds between the American and Saudi people.”
