Sunday night Bill Goldberg walked into WrestleMania 33 as the WWE Universal Champion, but he didn’t walk out with the belt. Goldberg defended against Brock Lesnar, and although Goldberg was 2-0 against Lesnar prior to the event, The Beast Incarnate was able to score his first big victory over the Universal Champion.
Goldberg didn’t appear on Raw during the Monday night broadcast, but after the show went off the air he made his way down to the ring to address the crowd. He said his goodbyes, and thanked the fans for their support before telling them that you can “never say never” in regards to him wrestling another match.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the belief internally is that Bill will be back for another match in the future, because his storyline and character were hot, his promos were strong, and he sold a lot of merchandise during his latest run.
With The Undertaker believed to be retired and The Rock being too busy to wrestle another match, Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle and Triple H are the only likely part-timers who will be competing at WrestleMania next year. So, don’t be surprised if WWE officials happen to find a storyline that works for Goldberg in order to bring him back for WrestleMania 34, or sometime before the event.
