WWE’s first ever all women’s pay-per-view, Evolution, is set to air live on the WWE Network on Sunday, and Michael Cole will be doing commentary along with Beth Phoenix and Renee Young.
With Evolution being all about women stepping into the spotlight, some have wondered why WWE would add Michael Cole to the team, and Mike Johnson of PWInsider recently talked about the company’s thought process on PWInsider Elite Audio (via Ringside News).
“I asked about this and I found out this is why. The feeling was Renee is a good announcer, Beth [Phoenix] is a good announcer… they didn’t want to put either of them in a position to do play-by-play and have them not look strong.”
It was also noted that Mauro Ranallo was considered to be the play-by-play guy, but in the end the decision was made to go with Michael Cole.
