This week’s episode of WWE Monday Night Raw was an eventful show to say the least, and the big plot point heading into the episode was that CM Punk would be deciding which brand he would be signing with. Ultimately CM Punk signed with Raw and he also had an interesting confrontation with Seth Rollins. Instead of putting CM Punk’s big decision in the main event segment WWE instead had Punk come oput earlier in the show.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that even though WWE likely knew Punk’s segment would hold more viewers if they put it on last, less viewers would have seen the promo if it was in the main event segment.
WWE put CM Punk’s promo on at the top of the 9 o’clock hour because that’s usually the high point of the show, so they knew more people would get to see CM Punk’s decision.
Not only did CM Punk sign a contract to join the Raw brand, he also declared that he will be entering the 2024 men’s Royal Rumble match next month. It’s no big secret that it’s been Punk’s goal to compete in the WrestleMania main event, and it seems that his chances of that happening are now greater than ever.
