The WWE roster is loaded with talent at the moment, but on Sunday two of the most popular stars in the company informed the world that they were being let go. R-Truth and Carlito both took to social media to announce their departures which got a big reaction from the wrestling community.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that with WWE adding people to the roster subtractions have to be made. Due to WWE calling up so many people in recent weeks wrestlers on the bottom level who aren’t being used in a major program are in danger of getting cut. Meltzer also claimed that Triple H was the one who made the call to cut R-Truth and Carlito.
“There’s numbers. They’re looking at the numbers, and they’re looking at how many do we have to cut, or how much money do we have to cut. And those were the picks. Those were the [Paul “Triple H”] Levesque picks, and that’s what it is.”
Carlito announced on social media that his contract is set to expire in two weeks. Currently Carlito is still a member of The Judgment Day. It’s not clear if he will be written off TV somehow as Meltzer also noted that usually people aren’t brought back once a WWE departure is publicly announced.
“Usually when we hear about these guys being gone and they say it, like if you’re not, put it this way, if you’re gonna be back, I mean, the usual protocol, which is why it’s kind of a surprise to me, especially with Carlito is that if you’re in this situation, they send you out there, you usually get massacred in some way, and they blow you off, and then they’ll tell you, oh, by the way, you’re not being renewed. So it’s surprising, because usually they don’t bring you back when they announce this.”
