Vince McMahon retired from WWE last year, but he shocked the world when he returned to the company in January. Vince has made it well know that he wants to sell the company and it looks like he has a number in mind.
Lucas Shaw of Bloomberg is reporting that Vince McMahon is looking to get as much as $9 billion dollars for a potential sale of World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. according to people familiar with the situation. It’s also being reported that the company has already received offers according to people who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private.
The report also noted that, “A valuation of $9 billion amounts to about seven times the company’s $1.29 billion in sales last year, and 23 times its adjusted operating income before depreciation and amortization, both at the high end for the entertainment industry.”
Shaw also noted on Twitter that sources have expressed skepticism that many traditional media companies will buy WWE. However, he did note that there are interested parties such as Endeavor and the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund. WWE is currently valued at $6.65 billion. Stay tuned for updates.
FWIW sources have expressed skepticism that many traditional media companies will buy the WWE.
But there are definitely some interested parties (like Endeavor the Middle Eastern $$).
