If you saw SmackDown Live this week then you might have been as shocked as we were to watch Vince McMahon take a headbutt from Kevin Owens. Although he didn’t really get busted open the hard way, the headbutt was still enough to make contact and get the job done.
Dave Meltzer recently opened up on Wrestling Observer Live where he explained why Vince McMahon can’t take any more shots to the head like that again. It isn’t just due to his age, but also the incredible amount of damage he’s already taken throughout his career.
“Vince’s memory is really bad now and if you got a guy and he’s 72 years old and his memory is already really bad and he’s had a lot of concussions in the past, I don’t think that we were strong enough on just how reckless and stupid [the headbutt was on Tuesday night].” Meltzer added, “He may not get any bad effects from this but he may. It boggles the mind honestly that he did that – that someone didn’t tell him ‘dude, you’ve had concussions.’”
Meltzer also said, “If this was like 10 years ago, I would still think it was stupid. Now it’s just beyond stupid. It’s just ridiculous. It’s already done and hopefully, he doesn’t pay for it later in life or sooner in life.”
Vince McMahon is the source of a lot of attention due to his top position in WWE. But the fact is he’s the boss and makes the rules. But he also needs to consider the social responsibility along with the personal safety required to keep doing what he’s doing.
McMahon is in incredible shape for a 72-year-old man but he has a brain that works just like the rest of us. Vince needs to take care of himself. So let’s hope that’s the last time we see McMahon take part in a spot like that.
