This week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown featured some interesting moments, but one star who was noticeably absent was former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre. Earlier in the day it was reported by PWInsider that Drew was originally set to appear on SmackDown before he was pulled from the show.
Drew McIntyre’s contract with WWE is set to expire at the end of the year and he has yet to agree to a new deal. The two sides are said to be far apart when it comes to money.
Wade Keller recently discussed Drew McIntyre’s contract status on PW Torch VIP Audio, and he indicated that Drew is unhappy when it comes to his current situation with WWE.
“We alluded to this that there’s been talk that he is unhappy with his current situation in WWE and I’m hearing it’s kind of a mix of creative and money and what kind of offer he’s getting for a renewal. It sounds like WWE is taking seriously the possibility that he is going to let his deal run out rather than agree to something that he believes is less than he deserves or less than what he thinks he has coming.”
“He was gonna be at SmackDown and now he has been pulled so I think that situation will probably, based on what I’m hearing, be decided pretty quickly one way or the other.”
On Sunday at WrestleMania 39, Drew McIntyre competed against Gunther and Sheamus in a triple threat match where the Intercontinental Championship was on the line. Keller added that Drew may have been pulled from SmackDown so that he could rest after being beat up by such a physical match. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
