You never know who might show up in WWE as the company has been signing some interesting names since Triple H took over creative last year, and now it looks like a WWE prospect has become a free agent.

Fightful Select reports that Tama Tonga is currently working in NJPW without a contract which makes him a free agent. It’s also being reported that WWE had interest in signing Tama Tonga.

Back in January the word on Tama Tonga was that WWE’s interest led to tentative creative plans being made that were pitched for him. However, it was noted that due to WWE’s unofficial hiring freeze the company did not maintain contact with Tama Tonga.

Tama Tonga has reportedly continued to work in New Japan Pro Wrestling without a contract for several months now. Tonga dropped the NEVER Openweight Championship to David Finlay recently at NJPW Wrestling Dontaku and a stretcher angle was done after that.

There’s currently no word on whether or not WWE will be exploring the option of signing Tama Tonga, but it will be interesting to see where he goes from here. Stay tuned for updates.
