The Miz is the current WWE Champion, and he’s been one of the top stars in WWE for years now. Even though he’s found major success The Miz came from humble beginnings, and his past as a reality star worked against him early on in his WWE career.
During an appearance on Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette the current WWE Champion revealed that he originally couldn’t get a tryout with WWE due to his reality star status.
He noted that years later WWE wanted him and Maryse to be a part of a reality show and he absolutely refused.
“I couldn’t get an audition (with WWE). Nobody would audition me because they were like, ‘We know who you are. You’re Miz from The Real World, you’re Mike from The Real World. You’re just a reality star.’ So when I got to WWE, nobody wanted me there because I was a reality star. Nobody wanted to learn that I was doing independent wrestling, that I was trying to learn the craft. Nobody cared. Back then it was way different than it is now. Then, cut to years later, I’m told, ‘Hey, we would love to do a reality show with you,’ and I said, ‘No, absolutely not.’ It was a 100% ‘no’.”
Ultimately The Miz did return to the world of reality TV a few years ago when Miz & Mrs. premiered on USA Network. The show is currently gearing up for season 3 which will premiere on April 12.
