The Royal Rumble is quickly approaching, and now that we’re only a few weeks away everyone’s trying to figure out who will win the Royal Rumble and go on to challenge for a major title at WrestleMania.
Rajah is reporting that some surprising names are being discussed as potential winners with Baron Corbin, Finn Balor and even Batista being rumored.
Advertising for the Royal Rumble on the official Wells Fargo Center website does feature Balor in a prominent spot, as it was rumored for months that he was set to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title at the event before Vince McMahon nixed the match.
One scenario which is reportedly being discussed could see Finn Balor win the Royal Rumble and get his title shot at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. Another scenario would see Balor switch brands and challenge AJ Styles for the WWE Championship with the idea being that the company could play up the fact that Balor beat Styles at TLC last year.
Brock Lesnar is set to defend the Universal Championship against Braun Strowman and Kane at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, but the general consensus seems to be that The Beast will be walking into WrestleMania 34 as the champion where he will face Roman Reigns.
Roman already won the Royal Rumble in Philadelphia a few years ago, and then went on to challenge Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, so it seems like it would be overkill if WWE officials set up the rematch the same exact way.
At this point it would seem to make more sense for a SmackDown star to win, or for a Raw star to win and switch brands.
