Back in 2016, Sting was officially inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, and during his induction speech he announced his retirement from professional wrestling. Sting sat on the sidelines for a few years, but he shocked the world when he joined AEW in 2020 then returned to the ring in 2021.
This week Sting appeared on AEW Dynamite when he made his way down to the ring for a promo. The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion reflected on his career while naming some of the wrestlers he’s worked with such as Dusty Rhodes, Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair. He started to indicate that he was going to announce his retirement and the fans chanted “You still got it!”
As he was wrapping things up he said his first retirement didn’t sit right with him. Sting then said he wants to address his retirement right now. He said his very first match with AEW was at Revolution 2021, and his very last match will take place at Revolution 2024. He closed by saying, “The only thing for sure about Sting is my retirement at Revolution 2024 is for sure.”
The AEW Revolution pay-per-view typically takes place in March. Stay tuned for updates.
