SmackDown officially made the move to Tuesdays last night and from here on out the show will be live every week. Last night’s episode was a special presentation of the WWE Draft and the viewership numbers have made it pretty clear that the draft equals ratings.
This week’s episode of SmackDown drew 3.170 million viewers according to ShowBuzzDaily.com, up from last week’s show which aired on Thursday and drew 2.068 million viewers. That’s obviously a huge increase over last week’s show, so it should be interesting to see what the numbers look like next week.
Last night after SmackDown the WWE Draft continued on the WWE Network. At the end of the show the cameras cut to a room with Heath Slater in it and the lights went out. As of this writing Slater hasn’t been drafted.
WWE is teasing that he could end up in the indies or Hollywood now that he’s a free agent and they’re claiming that he’s already been in talks with EVOLVE. WWE posted the following teaser:
Any independent promotion with an ear to the ground knows Slater would be a respectable acquisition. Rumors have even surfaced that sports-entertainment’s newest free agent has already been in talks with EVOLVE Wrestling’s Gabe Sapolsky and has reached out to William Regal regarding promotions in the United Kingdom.
If Slater does decide to hang up his boots, however, it may well be time for his close-up. With a role in the upcoming film The Marine 5: Battleground and as host of WWE Game Night on WWE.com, the burgeoning actor appears to have caught the bug. If so, Slater finds himself uniquely poised to follow The Rock and John Cena as the newest WWE Superstar to conquer Hollywood.
