For decades Shawn Michaels put on show stopping performances in the squared circle, but he officially retired after he was defeated by The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26.

In the years that followed HBK remained adamant that he wouldn’t be returning to the ring. However, he came out of retirement in November of 2018 when DX faced off against the Brothers of Destruction at Crown Jewel.

Even though Shawn Michaels is currently retired there are a number of wrestlers out there who have made it clear that they would love to step into the ring with him. Recently JDC was asked about potential dream matches during Q&A at For The Love of Wrestling (via Monopoly Events) and he claimed that when he ran into Shawn Michaels the former WWE Champion told him he has one or two matches left in him.

“You know who I talked to [at NXT] last week, who said he’s got one or two matches left in him? Shawn Michaels. Yeah, and that’s a guy, he’s the reason why I got into the business. So honestly, it’d probably never happen, but that would be my dream match.”

While you can never say never Shawn Michaels has given no indication that he’s looking to return to the ring in recent years. He did state during an interview in 2024 that he would like to face Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes or Logan Paul if he were 20 years younger.

Kevin Owens has also said in the past that he asks Shawn Michaels about a potential match ever year around WrestleMania season. According to KO, Michaels always says no, but perhaps he’ll change his mind someday.
