It seems that there’s frustration among the women in WWE over how they’ve been used, and they’ve been pushing for change for some time now. Fightful Select reports that several female WWE talents were frustrated with how they were being used on SmackDown. It’s being said that there was frustration from the bottom of the card to the top, but several were waiting to see “where the chips fell” before taking it to WWE higher ups.
Charlotte Flair taking time off and the returns of Asuka and Lacey Evans were factors as they weren’t figured into the creative plans at the time, so creative was able to implement more women into SmackDown starting with the May 13 episode. Sasha Banks and Naomi walking out also left a gap in the women’s division.
Many people were also reportedly surprised that Alexa Bliss, Shotzi, Aliyah, Xia Li, Doudrop and Nikki ASH were not used in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania 38.
Ronda Rousey was another “chip that fell” as numerous sources noted that she’s been more than willing to work with a variety of talent on SmackDown. One of the same sources also said that it felt like Vince McMahon was more concerned with getting himself on TV after the Wall Street Journal story than he was about booking and protecting female talent on the show.
