A few years ago Edge did the unthinkable when he came out of retirement and returned to the ring at the 2020 Royal Rumble. Since then the Rated R Superstar has been adding a new chapter to his career and he’s spent a great deal of time feuding with Finn Balor.
Edge managed to pick up a win over Finn Balor at WrestleMania 39 back in April, but it sounds like a potential Balor vs. Edge match was actually discussed years earlier. During a recent interview with SEScoops, Finn Balor explained that prior to the pandemic there was talk of him facing Edge at NXT TakeOver in Ireland.
“Yeah, there were talks right before COVID for a Takeover, NXT TakeOver going to Ireland. Actually, the penciled in match at the time that we were trying to get over the line was Finn versus Edge, which actually turned out being happening at WrestleMania.
“So and there’s definitely hopes in the future of having a PLE in Ireland, but you know, business is great. Right now we’re doing a lot more overseas, and we’re very excited.”
Edge is not on the SummerSlam card this time around, but Finn Balor will be in action as he’s set to challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Stay tuned for more updates on SummerSlam as they become available.
