There were a lot of people very saddened to hear Bayley was injured by Nia Jax but nobody was really surprised. After all, Nia did treat her like a human crash test dummy in the worst way. It still didn’t give the fans in Toronto a reason to flat-out boo Bayley, that was another shocker.
But the show must go on and Raw General Manager Kurt Angle decided to determine Bayley’s replacement by doing a mini-tournament with triple threat matches. Sasha Banks won her triple threat match and so did Nia Jax, but who didn’t see that coming?
We can only assume the reason why WWE didn’t just book Nia vs Sasha for the #1 contender spot is because they didn’t want to make it look like Nia was being rewarded for injuring Bayley and we’ve already seen these two lock horns numerous times in the past. Also, making it a tournament setting builds drama because WWE loves drama.
Sasha Banks spoke to WWE.com after the show and added her own dose of drama to the situation. The Boss said she was going to avenge Bayley’s injury and settle her business for The Hugger. It was actually a pretty good promo where Sasha brought up the would-be story of Bayley getting revenge over Bliss for her recent humiliating losses while at the same time inserting herself in the situation as a conquering hero.
Bayley replied by saying Sasha was indeed her hero but Nia Jax and Alexa Bliss had to disagree. The heels decided to pick on Sasha for benefiting from her best friend’s injury instead. After all, there might be a little bit of shoot in this work because there could be some legit heat between these girls.
Only time will tell who the Raw Women’s Championship winds up with after SummerSlam. But one thing’s for sure we’re plenty interested to see how it goes down.
