Samoa Joe has been lucky enough to have a successful career in the professional wrestling business, and months ago he was working as a member of the WWE commentary team when the company shocked the world by announcing his release following WrestleMania 37.
Fans were surprised to see that Joe had been let go, but it seems that Triple H had other plans for him as he has since returned to NXT as William Regal’s enforcer, and he’s set to challenge Karrion Kross for the NXT Championship this weekend.
Samoa Joe recently spoke to talkSPORT about his WWE release and he revealed that Triple H made him a new offer only hours after he was let go.
“When the release came, it was only a few hours later Hunter [Triple H] came and with the new offer ready for me so it was a pretty easy transition. I can’t really sit here and feign that I got released and, ‘Oh, it was a sombre day.’ I wasn’t down anyway, but then Hunter called and we were good from there so it’s tough for me to begin to address the release because when you read it in a tweet it’s like, ‘Oh my gosh!’ But the way the actual events transpired for me, it was very mundane and alright, sign here and sign there, we’re good [laughs]. There wasn’t a mourning process in this whole deal.”
Samoa Joe will challenge Karrion Kross for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver 36 on Sunday, August 22. Stay tuned for updates.
