This week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown emanated from Mexico City and the show featured a huge main event. CM Punk defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Sami Zayn, and in the end it was Sami Zayn who walked out with the gold.
Near the end of the match Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae ran down to help Sami and Candice got up on the apron. CM Punk made Sami tap out to the Anaconda Vice, but the referee was distracted by Candice, so he didn’t see it.
CM Punk got up to get the ref’s attention as Johnny got in the ring with the Undisputed WWE Championship. Gargano tried to hit Punk with the belt, and the Second City Saint dodged it. CM Punk then hit Johnny with the GTS.
As the referee rolled Gargano out of the ring Sami tried to grab the belt, but Kevin Owens appeared and picked it up instead. Owens tried to hit Sami with the belt, but Sami moved out of the way and Owens ended up hitting Punk with the belt by accident.
KO smirked after hitting Punk with the belt, then tried again to hit Sami with the belt and Sami hit him with a low blow. Zayn followed up as he hit Punk with the Helluva Kick and pinned him to win the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Sami Zayn is now a two time Undisputed WWE Champion as he won the title for the first time in his career back in June when he pinned Cody Rhodes at Night of Champions. He later dropped the belt to CM Punk nine days later on Raw.
