Sami Zayn Wins Undisputed WWE Championship At Night Of Champions

For weeks now Cody Rhodes has been feuding with Gunther and The American Nightmare successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against The Ring General at Clash in Italy in a match that featured a controversial ending.

Due to the controversial ending Gunther received another shot at the title, and he picked Sami Zayn to be the special guest referee. Things got heated and Sami helped Cody retain after Gunther got physical with him. Nick Aldis later confirmed that Cody would defend his title in a triple threat match against Gunther and Sami at Night of Champions.

As soon as the bell rang the action kicked off and all three men kept up with a quick pace. Gunther tried to take out Sami Zayn in order to get Cody one on one. Cody managed to hit a double Cody Cutter in Sami and Gunther then he hit Sami with a dive on the outside.

Gunther tried for a powerbomb, but Cody reversed it into a Cross Rhodes. Gunther got out of it and connected with the powerbomb then Sami broke up the pin. Sami threw Gunther into the steel ring steps outside the ring then set his sights on Cody. He hit the champion with a Blue Thunder Bomb and Cody kicked out.

Sami tried to hit his finisher on Cody, but Gunther grabbed his leg and pulled him into the ring post. Cody connected with the Cross Rhodes on Gunther. As the referee was counting the pin Sami pulled the ref out of the ring to break it up.

Cody and Sami faced off as they exchanged strikes in the ring. Rhodes went for the Disaster Kick, but Sami dodged it and hit Cody with a brainbuster. Gunther hit a splash off the top to break up the pin. The Ring General then hit Sami with a powerbomb followed by a powerbomb on Cody. He went for another powerbomb on Sami and Sami flipped it then pinned Gunther for a two count.

Sami Zayn connected with the Helluva Kick on Gunther and Cody pulled the referee out of the ring to break up the count. Sami got out of the ring so Cody slammed his head into the announce table then cleared it off. Sami did the same to Cody and cleared off the other announce table.

Zayn tried for a package piledriver on the announce table, but Cody fought out of it. Sami charged at Cody and Cody lifted him up for a back body drop to send Sami through the other announce table. Gunther grabbed Cody and powerbombed him twice onto the remaining announce table then dragged him back into the ring.

The Ring General locked in the sleeper hold on Cody. However, Cody stood up with Gunther on his back then dropped him on the match. Gunther locked in the sleeper again. The referee picked up Cody’s hand, but Sami grabbed it so it couldn’t fall to the mat.

Sami sent Gunther into the corner with an exploder suplex followed by the Helluva Kick. Zayn looked shocked as Gunther kicked out. He picked Gunther up and Gunther hit Sami with a clothesline. Gunther went for a powerbomb on Sami, but Cody hit him with a Cody Cutter.

Cody tried for the Cross Rhodes on Sami and Sami hit Cody with the move instead. Gunther put sleeper on Sami and Cody grabbed Sami then hit them both with the Cross Rhodes. Cody went for a Cross Rhodes on Sami one more time, and Sami rolled him up to win the belt.
