Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were recently sent home from WWE’s European tour, and multiple sources have reported that they were sent home for disciplinary reasons following an error they made after Sami Zayn’s match with Kofi Kingston.
The finish of the match went as planned, but a mistake was made after the finish. Kevin Owens ran in and attacked Kofi as he was supposed to, then Owens and Zayn left as the rest of The New Day got in the ring.
Zayn and Owens were supposed to get beat up by The New Day after the match to set up a tag team match for next week, but instead they just left. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Zayn and Owens didn’t have an issue with getting beat up, but somewhere along the lines there was a miscommunication that caused the error.
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were then told to leave the arena, and fly home, but where the situation goes from here is unknown.
“They were told to leave, go back to the hotel and fly home. They flew home, and they’re off the tour. As far as anything else it’s up in the air,” Meltzer said. “They may be back on Tuesday. They may never be back. They may be something in between. But right now there’s nothing official other than they’re not going to be on the rest of the tour.
It’s worth noting that as of this writing WWE.com is still promoting a tag team match featuring Zayn and Owens facing off against The New Day for next week’s episode of SmackDown.
Meltzer also noted that something did go wrong during the pre-match promo, but it had nothing to do with Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. When Shane McMahon mentioned that Daniel Bryan would be returning on SmackDown Live next week, the fans booed which threw Shane off his game.
Shane thought that the fans were booing Bryan, but then realized they were booing because Bryan wasn’t appearing on this week’s episode of SmackDown. The segment then had to be edited to remove that part of the promo.
