Sami Zayn Costs Kevin Owens The Undisputed WWE Championship On SmackDown

Kevin Owens made his big return to WWE earlier this month at the SummerSlam premium live event, and he earned a shot at the Undisputed WWE Championship when he won a fatal four way match. For weeks now Kevin Owens and CM Punk have been exchanging verbal jabs on SmackDown, and they finally clashed when Punk defended the title against Owens on this week’s episode.

Owens made his entrance first and he looked emotional as he walked into the arena. He looked into the camera and addressed CM Punk as he said, “20 years b***h” before he got in the ring. CM Punk entered next wearing a hockey mask. As Mark Nash introduced them Kevin Owens was cheered while CM Punk was heavily booed by the fans in Toronto.

As soon as the bell rang Owens went right after Punk and pummeled him. He knocked Punk to the outside then hit the champion with several chops followed by a right hand. KO threw Punk into the ring then cleared off the announce table, but Punk stopped him put the cover back on the table then shook Joe Tessitore’s hand.

Back in the ring Owens went for the Stunner, but Punk blocked it and turned it into a neckbreaker. Owens got the upper hand again as he drove Punk into the corner, but Punk countered as he whipped Owens into the opposite corner. The fans started doing dueling chants for Kevin Owens and CM Punk.

Punk tried for the GTS, but Owens reversed it and rolled him up into a pin for a two count. Punk then stomped Owens in the corner. Owens made a comeback and hit Punk with a cannonball in the corner, but Punk kicked out.

Back on the outside Kevin Owens hit CM Punk with a superkick to send him onto the announce table. He then hopped up onto the barricade and put Punk through the table with a Frog Splash. Owens threw Punk into the ring then followed up with a Swanton Bomb. Punk kicked out.

Owens tried for the Pop-Up Powerbomb and Punk countered with kicks to the head. He pinned KO and KO kicked out at two. Punk taunted the fans as he told them their hockey team hasn’t won anything since 1967. The fans started to heavily boo Punk as he hit KO with the knee in the corner then went to the top for an elbow drop. He connected and KO kicked out at two once again.

Punk immediately locked in the Anaconda Vice. Owens tolled him over for a pin that ended in a two count. They stood up and Punk hit a neckbreaker followed by another. Punk beat down Owens as the fans heavily booed him.

CM Punk called for the GTS as the fans continued to boo. He put KO on his shoulders and KO blocked it on the landing then put Punk in the Sharpshooter. Punk made it to the bottom rope.

Owens went for the Stunner and Punk pushed him into the referee into the corner. Punk went for the GTS and Kevin pushed Punk into the ref to send the referee to the outside. KO then connected with the Stunner, but there was no one there to count the pin.

Kevin Owens called for another referee as CM Punk connected with the GTS. However, once again there was no referee to count the pin. CM Punk went to the outside and picked up the refree as SamiZ ayn jumped over the barricade and threw Punk into the ring post then threw him into the ring. Sami then ducked so Kevin couldn’t see him.

Owens hit the Stunner and Sami threw the referee into the ring. Punk barely kicked out. Sami threw the Undisputed WWE Championship into the ring as Punk and the ref were down. Kevin picked it up, but looked conflicted. Sami stood on the apron and KO shoved the belt into his chest as he told Sami he didn’t want to win like this. Sami hit KO in the head with the belt then Punk connected with the GTS and pinned Kevin Owens to retain the championship.

After the match Sami Zayn hit CM Punk with the Undisputed WWE Championship. Kevin Owens got back in the ring then Sami hit him with the belt again. Sami yelled at Punk and held up the belt as the show went off the air.
