Roman Reigns has been one of the top stars in WWE for years, but nowadays he doesn’t regularly appear on WWE programming. WWE has been selective with how often they use Roman Reigns, and he was pulled from the Money in the Bank premium live event in July even though he was initially advertised for the show.

It was rumored that WWE had plans for Roman Reigns to face Riddle at the event, but instead The Tribal Chief ended up facing Riddle on Friday Night SmackDown a few weeks before Money in the Bank.

Originally Money in the Bank was set to take place from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas before it was moved to the MGM Grand Arena. During an appearance on the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast, Roman Reigns confirmed that WWE made the decision to pull him from the show after Money in the Bank was moved to a smaller venue.

“The strategy for the first few months after Mania was to be on Money in the Bank, but once the show was changed and it was moved from Allegiant Stadium and into the arena, we re-strategized and we stayed on the path of hitting the huge ones going into the winter.

Once Money in the Bank was moved, I was pulled from that and we knew we were going to hit SummerSlam and Cardiff being a huge stadium show, an international show, I knew I was going to be part of that. For me, it wasn’t a surprise, once I knew things were up with Money in the Bank, I figured there would be an adjustment there.”

Roman Reigns is currently set to defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Drew McIntyre at Clash at the Castle on September 3. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
