AEW has been on TV for a little over two years now, and in recent months the company has signed some big names such as CM Punk and Bryan Danielson.
WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair recently discussed the topic of Bryan Danielson and CM Punk joining AEW on the first episode of his Wooooo Nation podcast, and he questioned what the former world champions have contributed to the brand so far.
“Well, if I’m looking at the ratings, I don’t know what (CM Punk and Bryan Danielson) have contributed to. Yes, as you said, they’re certainly both big stars in the business, both had a lot of success, but I don’t know how to answer that question because all you can do, as we do with football or any other show, is look at the ratings.
I mean, I think they’ll go up, but to me, that show should never do less than 1.1 million. If they get there once, bring in all this talent, and then go back (under 1 million), then there’s something wrong.”
Last weekend at Full Gear CM Punk picked up a win over Eddie Kingston, while Bryan Danielson defeated Miro to become the number one contender for the AEW World Title. It had been rumored that Ric Flair was AEW bound following his WWE release, but Flair has yet to join the promotion. Stay tuned for updates.
