When Rey Mysterio left WWE after his last run with the company it wasn’t on the best terms. Many people believe Rey didn’t get the treatment he deserved during his last tenure in Vince McMahon Land.
Mysterio started working the indie scene after his WWE departure and has seen great success. He is currently with Lucha Underground but 90-days after the third season airs in September he will be free from any obligations to them.
While most thought the 42-year-old Superstar might not entertain another run with WWE, Sports Illustrated reports Rey Mysterio is actually talking to them about a return. It is also reported Rey is talking to Global Force Wrestling too. Needless to say, he has some options because we’re sure both companies would love to have Mr. 6-1-9 on their roster.
When asked who he had the most honor of sharing a ring with, Rey put over Ric Flair, Eddie Guerrero, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Undertaker and he said the list could go on.
While it is still in the cards for Lucha Underground to offer him another contract it is possible Mysterio will be moving on soon. Whether he goes back to WWE or takes a chance with GFW is the real question.
It is reported Rey Mysterio might go back to WWE for a couple of reasons. Number one, WWE could probably offer a better money deal to their former champion. Another reason Mysterio might want to come back to WWE would be to help his son Dominic get his foot in the door as he has aspirations of becoming a pro wrestler too. Remember the whole “I’m your papi” story with Eddie Guerrero? Well little Dominic has grown up and it looks like he wants to follow in his father’s footsteps.
If Mysterio ended up in GFW it would fall in line with their current push of Alberto El Patron (if he comes off of his suspension). The fact of the matter is Rey Mysterio is still a big name and he obviously has a couple choices to make on the matter. We’ll just have to wait and see what he decides to do.
