Last week WWE released over two dozen wrestlers and some surprising names were cut. Every member of The Wyatt Sicks was let go, and Aleister Black and Zelina Vega were also released.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that The Wyatt Sicks were released because the feeling was that the group had run its course.
“It was just felt that the group had run its course. Even at first there were those who saw it as a short-term idea. It was basically a tribute to Bray Wyatt and was over big at first but it was limiting how they could be used with that gimmick over the long haul.”
It was also noted that the feeling was the company got all they were going to get out of The Wyatt Sicks and Aleister Black and Zelina Vega’s release was a decision made on who they weren’t going to do anything more with. Regarding Black it’s being said that once he returned to WWE the company didn’t really have much in the way of ideas for him.
There’s also been a rumor going around claiming that WWE released The Wyatt Sicks, Aleister Black and Zelina Vega due to TKO not wanting darker characters on WWE programming. However, it’s being reported that rumor is “bulls**t” and the decisions regarding those releases did not even reach that level.
