SummerSlam kicked off on Saturday as night 1 emanated from US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The show featured some big matches, but some fans were surprised to see Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar main event over the Undisputed WWE Championship match which saw Cody Rhodes challenge CM Punk for the title.

PWInsider is reporting that the belief is Brock Lesnar was the one who pushed for his match with Oba Femi to main event night 1 of SummerSlam. A fan asked about Brock Lesnar usually stepping into the ring early at premium live events so he can go home, and it was noted that Lesnar was pretty much in his home market due to SummerSlam being in Minneapolis, so it wasn’t as far for him to travel.

Ultimately Oba Femi picked up the win over Brock Lesnar when he hit The Beast Incarnate with the Fall From Grace for the second time and pinned him to secure the victory. After the match Brock held up Oba’s arm and announced that Oba is the future.

During the SummerSlam post-show, Oba indicated that he didn’t know Brock was going to praise him when he said, “The hug and the public endorsement was definitely a swerve. I did not see that coming. But I knew that deep down, deep down, Brock has always respected me. And he knows that deep down, I respect him as well.

This moment means everything to me. All my hard work, all my dedication, all my years in Nigeria, all my years throwing the shot put, all my years fighting, every single thing has led up to this moment. Destiny has been kind to me. She will never forget me. She will always forgive me. She remembers her son, Oba Femi!”
