Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton have been feuding for quite some time now and the two former friends clashed at Sunday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta. Before the match kicked off Randy Orton tried to sneak up behind Cody Rhodes, but The American Nightmare caught Orton just before he got in the ring. Rhodes and Orton then brawled throughout the arena and Orton talked trash to Cody’s family as they watched from the front row.
When they got into the ring the bell finally rang and the match officially started. Cody put Randy in the Figure Four and The Viper got to the ropes as he sold the pain in his knee.
On the outside Randy dropped Cody onto the announce table twice. He then walked back up to Brandi, Cody’s mom and Cody’s sister in the front row. Brandi threw a drink in Randy’s face once he got close and Randy got back on the ring. Cody hit him with a powerslam followed by a Disaster Kick.
The American Nightmare went for Cross Rhodes and Orton blocked it then countered with a few clotheslines and a powerslam of his own. The Viper hit the middle rope draping DDT.
Orton called for the RKO as Cody tried to get to his feet. Cody blocked it and hit the Cross Rhodes for a two count. Orton tried for the RKO again and Cody shoved him into the ref, but Randy caught himself before they collided. Rhodes charged at Randy and Randy moved, so Cody accidentally hit the ref instead. Orton immediately hit the RKO, but there was no referee to count the pin.
Cody got to his hands and knees and Orton went to the corner for the punt. However, Cody dodged it then countered with Cross Rhodes as Orton rolled out to the floor. Cody ran the ropes and connected with a dive to the outside. The referee was standing behind Orton as Cody landed on him, so the referee got knocked down once again.
Rhodes repeatedly slammed Orton into the ring post then pummeled him on the announce table. Cody picked up the steel ring steps and hit Orton in the face which busted Orton open.
The American Nightmare rolled Orton back into the ring and hit a Cody Cutter off the top rope. He connected with the Cross Rhodes followed by another Cross Rhodes. He picked Orton up for a third Cross Rhodes, but threw him down to the mat instead. Cody went to the corner and teased the punt. He ran at Orton and Orton put his hand up as he begged for mercy. Cody hesitated.
Orton groveled at Cody’s feet and Cody shoved him. Another referee came out to check on Orton. Cody moved the referee out of the way and Orton hit Cody with a low blow, but accidentally hit the referee with a low blow as well as the ref was standing behind Cody.
The Viper hit Cody with the RKO then the original referee got back in the ring and counted the pin as Orton won the match.
