WWE’s next pay per view for the Raw brand is Great Balls Of Fire. When word first broke about the new PPV name there were jokes a plenty, and when the logo for the event was revealed there were even more jokes told. But as it turns out the July PPV will be no laughing matter.
The Great Balls Of Fire event is likely going to be as stacked as WWE can make it. The latest issue of The Observer notes The Hardy Boyz are set to have their rematch for the Raw Tag Team Championships against Sheamus and Cesaro at the event. Other matches on the card are set to see Alexa Bliss defending her Raw Women’s Title against Nia Jax and Miz vs Ambrose with the IC Title involved.
Although the entire Great Balls Of Fire show will be hyped as a big show due to the excellent main event and the fact Brock Lesnar is wrestling, it will merely serve as a bridge to Summerslam.
Samoa Joe won a really great fatal 5 way match at Extreme Rules to secure the #1 contender spot for the Universal Title so he will be headlining against Brock Lesnar at the event. The dream match of Lesnar vs Joe might be over a decade in the making, but it is being reported this match-up will probably be a one time deal.
After the July event Brock Lesnar is set to defend his Universal Title against Braun Strowman once he returns. The Beast Incarnate vs The Monster Among Men is likely going to headline Summerslam this year.
But others who participated in the fatal 5 way match at Extreme Rules shouldn’t feel left out because Brock will reportedly get to them eventually. Lesnar is also set to have matches with Seth Rollins and Finn Balor prior to his WrestleMania encounter against Roman Reigns. Therefore it appears the only person who is getting shut out of the Universal Title picture right now is Bray Wyatt.
It really is an irrelevant and ridiculous name. Ring of Fire would have been better…or ring of hemorrhoids…or anything else at all. The terror name is going to bring the entire event down.
[…] vs Joe is also only expected to be a one-time deal too. So that also dampens some excitement of the Super Fight feel of this match. But you never know […]
