CM Punk decided to walk out of WWE the night after the 2014 Royal Rumble, and he never looked back. Punk spent 7 years away from professional wrestling before he eventually joined AEW in 2021.

It seems that CM Punk was supposed to be in action on the January 27, 2014 episode of Raw as Claudio Castagnoli revealed during an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet that he was supposed to face the former WWE Champion.

“Here’s a fun fact, you know when the last time I was supposed to wrestle Punk was? The day he walked out,” Claudio said.

Claudio went on to say that CM Punk did tell him the match wouldn’t be happening when he added, “He told me, I saw him in the hallway as he was on his way out.”

CM Punk defeated Jon Moxley in the main event at All Out earlier this month to win the AEW World Championship for the second time in his career, but unfortunately for Punk he suffered an injury in the process. It was recently reported that Punk underwent surgery to repair a torn triceps and he is expected to be out of action for 6 to 9 months. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
