After several years of working as singles stars, The Shield finally reunited a few months ago, but the reunion definitely did not go according to plan. Roman Reigns became ill prior to TLC which caused him to be pulled from The Shield reunion match, and he was replaced by Kurt Angle.
Then The Shield reunion hit its biggest roadblock when it was revealed that Dean Ambrose had to undergo surgery to repair an injury, and he’s expected to be out of action for several months.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that original plans prior to Dean Ambrose’s injury called for The Lunatic Fringe to turn heel, and he would have presumably feuded with Roman Reigns following WrestleMania 34.
At this point Dean Ambrose turning heel is the only thing that would have made sense for the group, as it’s the only Shield program that hasn’t been done before.
It’s been expected for quite some time now that Roman Reigns will be walking out of WrestleMania 34 with the Universal Championship, and it’s been speculated that he could end up feuding with Seth Rollins.
Rollins has been making it clear that he wants a shot at the title, and WWE put him over in a big way during the gauntlet match on Raw.
