jon moxley

Jon Moxley had a huge night on Sunday as he main evented the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view in Chicago. However, it seems that AEW originally had different plans for Mox.

It was noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that originally Jon Moxley was set to compete in the first match which saw Shota Umino, Wheeler Yuta, and Eddie Kingston face off against the team of Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Minoru Suzuki.

It’s not clear at this point in time if Moxley would have replaced someone, or if the bout would have been an eight man tag match, but the idea was to put Moxley with protege Shota Umino.

Unfortunately plans had to be changed after it was revealed that AEW World Champion CM Punk had to take time off due to injury. Jon Moxley ended up defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi in the main event to become the interim AEW World Champion.

Mox will be in action on AEW Dynamite on Wednesday when the Blackpool Combat Club faces off against the Jericho Appreciation Society in a Blood & Guts match. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
