The current word going around is no matter what happens during the #1 contender’s match with Luke Harper and AJ Styles tonight, The Phenomenal One is still set to face Shane McMahon at WrestleMania despite our deepest plea for WWE to change their minds. There was some hope Shinsuke Nakamura might be making the jump from NXT to the main roster to face AJ at Mania, but apparently that’s not happening.
But, there are still those pesky rumors floating around claiming that we could be seeing a NXT star show up on Smackdown Live very soon. So, what would make sense?
As everybody lost their minds with visions of Kinshasas dancing in their heads, WWE booked another prominent NXT star for a handful of house show appearances right under our noses. So, what if Asuka is that NXT star primed to emerge on the blue brand?
If she came up and pulled a Paige, meaning she debuts as NXT Women’s Champion and is able to win the title off Alexa Bliss without much trouble, she would then have to relinquish her NXT gold without legitimately losing it. That would make her look amazing. There certainly isn’t enough competition in NXT for The Empress of Tomorrow and although Ruby Riot, Nikki Cross, and Ember Moon might be formidable opponents, nobody can defeat Asuka in a way which wouldn’t diminish her persona (or break her streak).
Then again, they could always call someone like Elias Samson up to Smackdown because he did just lose a “Loser Leaves NXT” match, but that would just piss fans off and make people hate The Drifter even more than they already do.
It’s a real toss-up at this point because anything can happen in professional wrestling. We’ll just have to tune in to Smackdown tonight and hold onto the hope that we won’t be as disappointed on Tuesday as we were on Monday night.
