new day

The New Day made their return to WWE a few weeks ago when they debuted on SmackDown Live, and they made it known right away that they wanted a shot at the SmackDown Tag Team Titles. The New Day challenged The Usos for the belts, but they were unsuccessful in their last attempt. Luckily for the team they got another shot at the titles Sunday night at the WWE Battleground pay-per-view on the WWE Network.

This time around it was Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods who challenged The Usos while Big E stood on the sidelines. There’s been some major tension between both teams after they took their rivalry to the next level with the SmackDown Live rap battle a few weeks ago, and they took each other to the limit on Sunday night.

Xavier Woods spent most of his time working inside the ring, and he took a beating at the hands of The Usos. Kofi got the hot tag, and it looked like The Usos had it won after a superkick/splash combo, but Kofi kicked out.

The Usos then both went to the top rope for a double team move, but Xavier pushed Jey off the top rope, and then Kofi followed up with Trouble In Paradise on Jimmy after Xavier made the tag. Woods then hit an elbow drop from the top rope to win the belts for The New Day.

After the match Tom Phillips pointed out that The New Day made history on Sunday as they became the first ever to win the Raw and SmackDown Live Tag Team Titles.
