It looks like one former champion is dealing with some legal issues as POST Wrestling is reporting that a Cook County Sheriff’s officer who was working off-duty security during an episode of Monday Night Raw back in July is suing WWE and Montez Ford, real name Kenneth Crawford. The officer, identified as Noel Lucas, is alleging that Ford performed an unwanted sexualized “lap dance” on him as The Street Profits were making their entrance during the live broadcast, and WWE went on to promote the footage on social media.
The security guard filed the lawsuit on Wednesday in the Circuit Court of Cook County. He is alleging 14 counts including assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and violations of the Illinois Gender Violence Act. WWE, Kenneth Crawford, and the company’s subsidiary Event Services, LLC are named as defendants in the lawsuit.
According to Lucas, Crawford danced toward him without his consent, and the clip later received hundreds of thousands of views on social media. Lucas is claiming that he became publicly recognizable and when he returned to his regular job working at a courthouse the next day, and members of the public who recognized him mocked him as they imitated Montez Ford’s movements by “thrusting their hips in his direction, imitating the sexual movements.” He also claimed that his children were “mocked and ridiculed” at school due to the video.
Lucas is claiming that he “suffered humiliation, embarrassment, and emotional distress,” and continues to suffer due to the video circulating online. Because his face is visibly in the clip Noel Lucas is claiming WWE is using his image for commercial purposes, which according to him is allegedly a violation of the Illinois Right of Publicity Act.
In the lawsuit the moment Kenneth Crawford approached Lucas is described as follows: “Defendant Crawford then began performing a sexually provocative dance immediately in front of and over Plaintiff [Lucas], repeatedly thrusting and gyrating his hips and pelvis towards Plaintiff, performing a sexualized ‘lap dance.’”
The filing also adds that Crawford moved his body increasingly closer to Lucas and that Crawford’s “left inner thigh repeatedly rubbed against Plaintiff’s leg.”
As part of the lawsuit Lucas is asking that the court award him monetary damages, punitive damages, legal costs and he is also asking that WWE and Crawford not be allowed to use the footage he is featured in. As of this writing a case management hearing is currently set for December 10th.
Stay tuned for updates.
