Michael Cole’s Announcing Career May Be Coming to An End Soon

It’s hard to believe, but Michael Cole has been featured as a backstage announcer and as a play-by-play announcer for WWE since 1997. He’s been a pivotal part of WWE programming for roughly twenty years, including taking over for Jim Ross in the lead announcer role.

Cole’s run as a heel announcer back in 2010 and 2011 permanently soured a lot of WWE fans to him and his play-by-play work on Raw. However, you can’t argue his contributions to the WWE product over the past two decades, and he’s a bonafide future WWE Hall of Famer.

It’s now being reported via PWInsider that Michael Cole’s run in front of the camera may be coming to an end soon. The signing of Mauro Ranallo, the enthusiasm of Corey Graves, and the rest of WWE’s announcers means the future of announcing in WWE is in very good hands.

Apparently, Michael Cole is becoming more interested in moving into an off-camera role with WWE in the near future. Right now, he’s working with the next generation of announcers to replace him and is helping behind the scenes with some parts of WWE’s production for shows.

There isn’t a timetable for when Cole will transition off WWE television completely, but it’s said to happening day by day. Sooner or later, he’ll call it a career as a full-time announcer.
