SummerSlam 1999 had a pretty fun card. Triple H, Mankind and Steve Austin had a triple threat match for the WWE Championship. Shane McMahon battled Test in a street fight and Ken Shamrock took on Steve Blackman in a Lion’s Den Match. What’s a Lion’s Den match you ask? You’re about to find out.

The Lion’s Den Match was a wrestling match that took place in a cage that looked similar to the octagon used in UFC. Weapons were also allowed in the match and it had pretty much become Ken Shamrock’s signature match during his run in WWE.

In the summer of 1999 Steve Blackman was hired by Vince McMahon to take out Ken Shamrock and the two battled over the course of a few pay-per-views. Their feud eventually came to a head at SummerSlam 1999 when the two competed in a Lion’s Den Match. Ken Shamrock had a MMA background and Steve Blackman was a martial artist and a weapons expert so the match type was a perfect fit.
